After the recent death of Acting Director Tsukumari—another of Roggenwolf's many victims—Mary Tsukumary has taken over the Chimera agency as Acting Director. Chimera, an oddity defense unit, aims to exterminate the aberrations, the oddities that have been twisted from their original form.

In the ongoing investigations, there was one that caught her attention. Mary knew that the director was working on something concerning Gray and that he had spoken with Vince, but nothing more. She later invited herself into the backyard of Ivory's house to try to learn more, by talking to Vince, Gray’s boyfriend. She told him that the director had died and that she was taking over. But also, that he might see her more often in the coming weeks considering her investigation.

On a summer day at the city's water park, Mary is on hand with many units to discreetly monitor Gray's whereabouts, present with Vince and his friends Keisha, Marcus, and Tanner. She instructs her agents to stay ready in case anything happens, knowing that Gray can be unpredictable.

Mary was right in mobilizing her team to this location. During the afternoon, Gray falls almost unconscious from a very high dive into a pool and remains inert at the bottom of the water for several minutes. A few minutes later, a huge structure that resembles the shape of a red-hot air balloon with eyes forms above the water.

Mary plans to destroy the structure with a missile but finds it breaking while the missile is underway. Gray starts to leave the structure, and the missile hits her full force. Against all expectations, after the impact Gray stands in the air, as if nothing had happened. She resisted the explosion and seemed completely indestructible, her skin blood red and her eyes raging. Gray takes Vince and disappears into the sky with him, leaving Mary to witness her failure.

Later, Mary is found kneeling and undressed before an old lady on a throne. Red marks are seen tattooed on different parts of her body. She calls the old woman "mother" and apologizes for failing. But the mother is anything but upset. She has just found what she calls the lost child of Crimson Flesh (Gray) and now wants to bring her home.

Mary Tsukumary appears to be very physically strong. She has been seen easily jumping over a high fence and sending a man flying several feet with a single kick.
