In William Shakespeare's The Tempest, Ariel was Prospero's most trusted servant. The two meet after Prospero freed him from a tree that he was imprisoned by the witch Sycorax. Throughout the play, he causes mischief and helps Prospero with multiple tasks.
He is also a member of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen aiding Prospero along with Caliban.
