The Blue Fairy was first created for the novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio from 1883, written by Carlo Collodi. The story was better known as Le Avventure Di Pinocchio due to the place of origins being in French speaking countries in Europe.

Origin

The Blue Fairy is said to be the most powerful fairy among her people, in some versions even said to be the religious creation to speak to unfortunate mortals, and grant their wishes in order to help society.

In Disney's animated classic from 1940 she originally brought Geppetto's wooden puppet to life, appointed Jiminy Cricket as the puppet's conscience and later revived the lifeless Pinocchio and turned him into a real boy.

This version of The Blue Fairy appeared in Disney promotion, comics and crossovers, including Disney's House of Mouse series and Donald Duck comics.

The German publishing company printed stories following Pinocchio, and his supporting characters. Among them were The Blue Fairy, who was now a friend of the young puppet boy. This version of The Blue Fairy was more bumbling, and was modeled after sitcom mom characters personality wise to fit the family comedy comic.

She is also shown to have a mother like role to Pinocchio, along with implications of a flirtation between her, and Geppetto.

Fables (Vertigo Comics/DC Comics)

The Blue Fairy in the Vertigo series is based off her original iteration, being a powerful fairy, and believed to be possibly connected to something far greater. This series showed what possibly happened after the iconic stories, and for The Blue Fairy, it meant to be drained of her magic power by a villainous Geppetto. She is confirmed dead later on, however it's unclear if she had died previously or if she was fatality injured by her former friend.

In the live action series, The Blue Fairy is named Reul Ghorm and is the leader of the fairies. She was the one who granted Pinocchio life, and help Snow White and Prince Charming with their soon to be born baby girl, Emma before the curse that brought them to the real world.

After the curse, The Blue Fairy and most fairies are nuns unaware of their once winged life, with The Blue Fairy being Mother Superior. After the first season, The Blue Fairy is made into a recurring character, with the her biggest roles being her near death by Peter Pan, and giving Tinker Bell back her wings. She was played by Keegan Tracy.
