Due to his oath of celibacy, Frollo initially attempts to resist his desires. All in vain. Through out the novel he looses control and becomes responsible for attempted murder, attempted rape, torture and blackmail. He survives enough to see the execution of Esmeralda. Killed moments later by an enraged Quasimodo.
Due to his priestly status, several adaptations either refuse to feature him as a villain (featuring Jehan instead) or have him featured as a layman.
