Creature from the Black Lagoon
The "hero" of the 1954 Universal horror movie and its sequels; the Creature is depicted with a level of pathos and dignity that sets it apart from other similar but forgettable monsters. Like the Wolfman, the Creature is a Universal property and not in the public domain, unlike Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster.

The creature is a seven foot tall amphibious "living fossil" with extremely powerful clawed hands and feet. It is able to swim swiftly, with great agility, and stay submerged for long periods.
It is highly resistant to most forms of damage but prolonged absence from water will weaken and eventually kill it.
It will often target human females for capture; possibly to mate or feed on as they will offer the least resistance.
More likely, he is drawn to women as a result of the popular "Friend of All Living Creatures" trope, for in all the original films, the Creature demonstrates a protectiveness for the film's female protagonist, and in most films, only the female characters treat him with any compassion, whereas in his second film the male protagonist uses an electric prod to torture him as a form of bizarre teaching effort.
