History

Eos was a Titan goddess in Greek mythology, daughter of the ancient race of Titans Hyperion and Thia. She was the goddess of the dawn and had two siblings. One was her brother Helios, god of the sun. The other was her sister Selene, goddess of the moon. Eos was married to the god of dusk. Their union would produce many offspring that represented everything that occurred during the union. Both the dusk and the dawn which then becomes the twilight. Among her children were the four winds the Anemoi, as well as he Morning Star named Eosphorus, and Astra Planeta the wandering stars or planets.

Greek myth also mentions Eos as having a ravenous desire for attractive young men. In one story Eos is she is the wife to Ares the god of war. However the story goes that the goddess of love Aphrodite would curse Eos into obsession due to her own jealous rage. Eos would have many lovers such as Orion, Phaethon, Kephalos and Tithonos. She would take three of these lovers away to far away places with unbridled passion.

In her most famed myth the Trojan prince Tithonos married Eos and became her consort. Eos would seek Zeus in Mount Olympus requesting Zeus to grant Tithonus immortality. However the story takes an undesired outcome as Eos neglected also to ask Zeus to also give him eternal youth. In time Tithonus would age like any human would. Older and older he became. Immortal but no longer a man he is transformed into a grasshopper.

Eos has been adapted from the Greek mythology of the Olympians by the publisher DC Comics. She has had appearances or mention in the following series.

DC Comics

In 1980 George Pérez began working alongside Marv Wolfman for their DC Comics. Together with the publishing company they relaunched of The New Teen Titans. Perez and Wolfman would bring in heavily the Olympian Gods to add to Donna Troy's history. Eos was appeared in a few issues but never had a speaking line. She would be seen defending Mount Olympus from the attack of the Titans of Myth.

George Perez, Len Wein, and Greg Potter would relaunch Wonder Woman of in 1987, they tied the character more closely to the Greek gods and Goddess elements of her history. Eos originally was cast as one of the newly debuted Olympians in Wonder Woman vol. 2 #1 in February 1987. However she made very little appearances after her initial reintroduction in the series.

Hero Comics

In the series titled the Champions which was produced by Hero Comics and created by Dennis Mallonee, Chris Marrinan, and Dell Barras, Eos and the Olympian Gods would make an appearance. Eos was a major part of the story line as she took possession of Flare and traveled along with her teammates in the Champions to Mount Olympus. She first appeared in "The Gods reborn", Champions #11 September 1988.
