Henry Wilcox is a mental patient at Arkham under the eye of Dr. Llewellyn, who one night comes into his cell to discuss the statue that Henry had made and had driven him mad. Dr. Llewellyn doesn't leave the cell alive, as Henry kills him with his bare hands and then escapes Arkham.

Henry then uses his magic powers to bring his statue to life. He uses it to steal the Necronomicon, kill the guards and bring him the evil tomb. He then leaves Arkham and heads to Kingsport, there he leads the cult of Dagon and brings Randolph Carter, Thomas Malone and Michele LaSorcier to the small town.

He is killed by Randolph during the resulting melee, but is brought back to life by Herbert West, but this was part of Henry's plan and uses his power to reanimate more corpses who steal the Necronomicon again but this time they kidnap Michele.

Henry is decapitated but Herbert saves his head so that the remaining investigators can question it about Michele's whereabouts. After some torture, Herny reveals that Michele has been taken to the Deep Ones and she will be used as the Bride of Dagon.
