Jai is an orphan boy who is friends with Tarzan.

Creation

In the movie Tarzan Goes to India (1962), starring Jock Mahoney, Tarzan meets Jai the elephant boy (possibly inspired by Kipling's Toomai of Elephants), played by Levi Aharon Aharoni, later in the 1966 television series, starring Ron Ely, Tarzan is accompanied by a boy named Jai, played by Manuel Padilla, Jrl, It is unclear whether it is the same character.

Jai and Cheeta appear in some stories published in Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes published by Gold Key during the period the series was produced (1966-1968).
