Ayesha is a character created by Henry Rider Haggard. She is an immortal born in ancient Egypt. She was born mortal but was bathed into a strange volcanic flame which granted her immortality. She has played both hero and villain over the millennia.

According to the novel Ayesha (1905): "She never dies. She changes, that is all. As the wind blows … so she comes and goes, … on the earth, or beyond it ..."
A series featuring Ayesha called The Eternal Woman and penciled by Guido Buzzelli was published in 1975-76 on Italian comics magazine Corriere dei Ragazzi. In this series Ayesha is a black-skinned immortal African queen.
