Mort Walker created Beetle Bailey in the 1950's, the original comic strip started in September 1950.
Most of his adventures take place while stationed at Camp Swampy. Private Bailey is a lazy fellow who usually naps and avoids work, and is often the target of Sergeant Snorkel trying to shape him up. During the strip's first year, Beetle Bailey was originally a college student who dropped out to enlist in the U.S. Army.
