The Winged Dragon of Ra (also known as The Sun God Ra) is one third of the powerful trio of Duel Spirits known as the Egyptian God Monsters. Stated to Symbolize two extremes of the Universe---The Sky and Earth----Ra is known as one of the most powerful Duel Monsters in existence, and the most powerful among the three Egyptian Gods.

Ancient Egypt
In Ancient Egypt Ra was one of the three ancient gods who were able to be summoned by the Pharoh, making it one of the three most powerful spirit monsters in existence. The only monsters to rival the three Egyptian Gods were Diabound and the White Dragon.
Duel Monsters
When Maximillion Pegasus created the Duel Monsters card game he searched far and wide to find the carvings of the three Egyptian gods. Despite his archaeological teams misfortunes Pegasus hand painted the designs for the God Cards which released their spirits back into the real world. Pegasus then sealed the cards in the tomb within the original carvings though all but Obelisk would be stolen by rare hunters. The Winged Dragon of Ra was used by Marik as his signature card.
