Once exposed to the Theta Virus, Melissa Scott not only gained ultranormal powers, but was blinded as well.
Tinsel can aborb available light, amplify it and redirect its energy into blasts of concentrated light.
Another side effect is that Tinsel no longer needs to eat, she can gain all her required nourishment from light, however, excessive use of her powers will leave her exhausted and helpless, and could even be fatal. But that is a chance Melissa is willing to take to be a member of the Exiles!
