Little is known about the man named Ahkmet Ta prior to his appearance in Aquilonia. It was presumed that this was indeed his name and that he was in fact a nobleman from Turan. He arrived in Tarantia with his bodyguard of silent warriors dubbed "The Brothers of the Skull" shortly after the king, Conan was thought lost at sea somewhere off the coast of Kush.

Using the magic at his disposal he ensorcelled the Queen, Zenobia with a skull-like crystal, and took command of her will. His first act of undermining the kingdom was to have the Queen order Propsero, commander of the Black Dragons to depart south for Kush to search for Conan's body, with orders not to return should he fail to do so.

Without the Black Dragons to maintain order, the militia fell into drunkenness and disobedience further eroding civil law.

Ahkmet Ta planned next to marry Zenobia, and assume the mantle of king of Aquionia. What he could not know was that Conan had returned to the city incognito and with a small band of men had linked up with Pallantides and planned to infiltrate the palace. Palantides and Gobo entered by way of the city's sewer system, while Conan entered by the front gate.

After a brief clash with members of the Brother of the Skull, Conan discovered they were in fact undead soldiers, reanimate by Ahkmet Ta's necromancy. Conan was overwhelmed and taken before Ahkmet Ta and Queen Zenobia, where Ta handed the queen a dagger and ordered her to kill her husband.

Unable to do so, her love proved strong enough to break the spell she was under, and she and Conan fought the Brotherhood on the palace floor. Outnumbered and surrounded, Conan and Zenobia were saved by the timely intervention of Gobo who was fleeing the city's sewers chased by a massive horde of rats. The angry rodents swarmed over the undead knights devouring them, and then turned their attention to the terrified Ahkmet Ta, killing him in a most painful fashion.

Conan purged the palace of the rats with fire, before setting the remains of Ahkmet Ta and his undead warriors alight.
