Creation

Amaranth was created as part of the New Champions initiative, designed by artist Jen Bartel as a variant cover for Scarlet Witch (2023) #9. Amaranth later made her first in-universe appearance in Crypt of Shadows (2024), by Steve Orlando and Claire Roe.

Student of the Scarlet Witch

After Agatha Harkness saved her life and took Amaranth in, it is decided that the Scarlet Witch would be a more fitting mentor for the young protege. Agatha brings Amaranth to The Emporium, where it is revealed she knows nothing of her life before the age of 10. She was taken in and raised by her adopted father, whom she accidentally turned mad with her powers. Wanda attempts a memory scry which fails to work, implying an extremely powerful spell is surpressing Amaranth's past. They are then attacked by The Eliminator. Wanda creates a portal to fight the magitek assassin and Amaranth jumps in after her, where the two fight him together. Eliminator casts a powerful self-destruct spell, but Amaranth nullified it and absorbed it into her self. Wanda is astonished at the skill required to perform such a feat and, despite Amaranth projecting her fear of people leaving her, agrees to take the young mystic on as a student.
