Angel
Member of Captain Castle's platoon of Valley Forge base. He has some drug addiction problems. He comes from the ghetto and has a bitter vision of America, which contrasts with that of Goodwin, his platoon mate.
Angel is a young soldier. He has angel wings drawn on his helmet.
When staying at Valley Forge, he cannot help but smoking heroine. He is one of Coltrane's customers. This worries Stevie Goodwin who doesn't hesistate to confront the drug dealer about it. Apparently Angel smokes so he can forget the ghetto he comes from and where he is about to come back.
On one occasion he has a discussion with Stevie about "real America" and their views are quite different. He is not the idealistic young boy Goodwin is. He does not believe in the American dream, or in a good america. He is far bitter than that. He believes in an America that used to call him "nigger".
When Valley Forge is attacked by enemy, just before he dies, Angel tells Goodwin that God doesn't exist.
