Fall of X

When Department H fell for a long and effective propaganda campaign against mutants started by Orchis, mutant noncombatants like Argent were forced to run like fugitives. Originally from Quebec, the state-sanctioned Alpha Flight caught up with him in Saskatchewan where he had assaulted officers in self-defense, but he was rescued by the mutant members of Alpha Flight. They brought him to a safehouse in Manitoba where they were keeping mutants before moving them off planet. There he learned the state Alpha Flight were faking their allegiance to Department H and was secretly helping their mutant teammates hide fugitive mutants.

Argent was not a fan of being moved to another planet. He just wanted to go home. He had no ambitions of becoming a superhero. He just wanted to return to his family. One night, while both teams were out in the field, Argent left, using his liquid metal powers to form a key and unlock the exit. He didn't shut the door behind him, leading some of the other cooped up mutant kids to venture out, ultimately giving their location to the Box Sentinels.

From afar, Argent saw the explosions at the safe house. Both Alpha Flight teams were on their way, but Argent was much closer. Feeling responsible, he turned around and returned to the safehouse to rescue the mutant kids. Unfortunately, he was no match for the Box Sentinels. One of them shot him with an energy blast, which stripped him of his metallic dermis and fried his body killing him.
