Origin

Very little is known about the man who would become Blood Spider. What is known is that he was trained by Taskmaster as a member of an evil version of the Avengers. Blood Spider was trained to be a version of Spider-Man while his team-mates Jagged Bow and Deathshield were trained to be versions of Hawkeye and Captain America. Blood Spider's real name was never mentioned in the comics, but instead was given the name Michael Bingham in 2003's Marvel Encyclopedia.

Character History

Blood Spider vs. Spider-Man

Spider-Man vs Blood Spider

Blood Spider along with Deathshield & Jagged Bow would come to Taskmaster's aid to defend him from Spider-Man & anti-hero, Solo. Blood Spider managed to be on par with Spider-Man in skills, however since Blood Spider only used natural talent while Spider-Man had mutated genes, Spider-Man was able to defeat him.

Venom: Lethal Protector

In a flashback that takes place chronically around the same time as his fight with Spider-Man, Blood Spider would be one of the many villains to hunt Venom, however Eddie Brock would turn his flamethrower onto himself, killing Blood Spider from his burns.

Deadpool & The Mercs For Money

Blood Spider was one the villains to go after Deadpool with no reference to his previous death, only for Deadpool to blow him up with a bomb, killing Blood Spider a second time.

Daredevil Hunt

Once again Blood Spider was brought back with no explanation how, this time as one of the villains going after Daredevil when Kingpin put a hit on him. Blood Spider appeared with his old friends, Deathshield and Jagged Bow.

Powers and abilities

Of the trio, the Blood Spider was the only character who displayed any superhuman abilities. He was able to shatter a solid concrete wall with a very powerful move, indicating he possessed some degree of superhuman strength. His stamina was also heightened to similar levels. He was not as powerful as Spider-Man, and not nearly as fast. He was able to offer the wall-crawler only momentary resistance before being dispatched.

His reflexes and agility were highly developed, but did not appear to reach a superhuman level. He had limited skill as a hand-to-hand combatant.

He carried a back pack and wrist devices capable of shooting webbing similar to that of Spider-Man, but much weaker. An ordinary human in peak physical condition, such as Solo, was able to tear through it, which would not have been possible with Spider-Man's webbing.

Apparently, the Blood Spider had not been trained by the Taskmaster for very long as he was not an outstanding hand-to-hand combatant as most of Taskmaster's students, such as US Agent. Blood Spider demonstrated little technique and fought with sheer brute force.

Costume

The costume worn by Blood Spider has several design elements that Mark Bagley would later incorporate into his redesign of Spider-Man's costume during the Ben Reilly years. The most prominent of the traits is the use of a larger, symmetrical spider emblem on the front and back, the legs of which meet on the shoulders.

The Blood Spider name and design was used for an alternate universe Spider-Man in the series who was the sole survivor of a vampire apocalypse caused by The Lizard. During a multiverse adventure, Miles Morales and Peter Parker met Blood Spider, trying his best to survive in the wasteland. The three Spider-Men worked together to save the infected vampires. Blood Spider briefly returned in a cameo part of the many Spider-Men in the multiverse.
