Chela was a member of the Brotherhood, a mutant terrorist organisation. He was sent to prevent a group of turncoats (Malon Reeves, Fagin and Michael Asher) from reporting the Brotherhood to the celebrity superhero team, the X-Statix. However Phat from the X-Statix killed him.
