Creation

Damon Dran was created by legendary duo Gery Conway and Gene Colan, and first appeared in Daredevil #92 in 1972.

Major Story Arcs

Initially Dran appeared as a Daredevil villain, but after re-appearing in her comics numerous times, he can now be labelled an official Black Widow rogue. Dran has repeatedly targeted those Natasha cares for, including Clint Barton and her contract manager Isaiah.

At the supposed mercy of Damon Dran
At the supposed mercy of Damon Dran

Before Natasha Romanoff had been fully embraced in her new identity as an expat hero in the U.S., Dran was ordered to extract her from New York and return the traitor to Russia. Having captured her within the NYC Russian embassy, Dran was confident Widow had no allies to free her, including her pseudo-nemesis Iron Man. Unfortunately for Dran, Natasha had developed a bond with another runaway criminal known as Hawkeye, and the circus performer-turned-archer fought his way to free Black Widow (who had already escaped her bonds) and together they beat Damon Dran.

Damon Dran was later seen by Hawkeye miraculously alive, securing multi-billion dollar weapons contracts for a third party weapons manufacturer, hoping to capitlize on tensions between the U.S. and Russia. This would be achieved by the planned assassination of a Russian diplomat, blaming the U.S. Secret Service and igniting the long-dormant Cold War, had it not been for Hawkeye intervening and "murdering" the diplomat himself. Following the failed attempt thwarted by Barton, Dran re-entered their viscious cycle of revenge, seeking out Hawkeye to hurt Black Widow and lure her to his base of operations in Madripoor. There he captures Barton and uses sonic emitters to destabilize Widow's symbiote suit, but the two heroes are able to pivot counter to Dran's plans and "kill" him once more.

Powers & Abilities

Damon Dran appears to be completely immortal, having escaped death numerous times. However he is not invulnerable, as his encounters with the Black Widow have caused horrific burns and scarring that cover his body and require him to breathe through tubes.
