Davey Dunson was the best friend of Alex Ellis and they both served in the military during the Desert Storm conflict. Davey Dunson was killed in battle and Alex Ellis was severely wounded and had one of his lower legs amputated. Davey's father, Abner Dunson is the president of Adarco Advanced Robotics Company  who established photojournalist awards in memory of his son  Davey Dunson. Adarco created the  Annex suit and learned how to create instant artificial limbs from the bio-regenerative energy well or BREW for short. Alex Ellis was the man in the Annex suit and Abner Dunson wanted to erase his memory and replace it with the memory of his son, Davey Dunson. Annex confronted Abner Dunson at the awards ceremony where members of the  Daily Bugle were present like  Jonah Jameson and  Peter Parker's wife,  Mary Jane.  Spider-Man and  Dr. Hillman Barto worked together to shut down the schematic force grid. Abner Dunson was apprehended and Alex Ellis retained his memory.
