Dr. Graves is hired by Shinobi Shaw to construct a machine that can remove the X-gene from mutants. His test against the young mutant Nga Coy Manh fails. He believes he has success removing the gene from Clear-Cut, but dies before the revelation that Clear-Cut was never a mutant to begin with.
