His most notable patient was Carol Danvers, back when she was still having trouble adjusting to her dual identity as Ms. Marvel. Barnett helped Carol come to terms with being a superhero, and the relationship between the two eventually became more than platonic. Their romance was tragically cut short when Ms. Marvel's shape-shifting nemesis, Mystique, disguised herself as Carol and murdered Barnett in his office.
