Jaime Vanderwall was a frustrated young woman with the power to teleport anywhere she wanted, leaving behind a puff of smoke as she left. Jaime had decided to leave the Xavier Institute because she believed she didn't belong there, that she wasn't a "freak" like the others. Beast, in his role as acting guidance counselor, tried to talk to her about why she was feeling so resentful but she wouldn't listen.

Soon after Beast discovered that Jaime was incredibly talented at creative writing, and encouraged her to apply to different colleges. Jaime's attitude turned around and she thanked Beast for convincing her to try. The next day, however, she learned she was rejected from the college of her choice and blamed Beast for getting her hopes up, telling him that he was a bad guidance counselor before teleporting away.
