Creation

Enigma was created by Al Ewing (W), Javier Rodriguez (A), Kieron Gillen (W) and Michele Bandini (A). Enigma had his full appearance in Rise of the Powers of X #1 - Data Pages however he was first spotted in Defenders: Beyond #5 - Kether: The House of Ideas. Enigma is named after the Enigma Variations by composer Edward Elgar.

Story Arcs

Defenders: Beyond

During the Defenders trip Outside they encountered the Beyonders who revealed they only destroyed the seventh cosmos via incursions to prevent a potential threat. This failed as Mr Fantastic created the Eight Cosmos as a continuation of the Seventh so the Beyonders pivoted to a containment strategy. They created the Concordance Engine to contain the threat to 616 and its branching realities.

The threat being a Dominion who seeks to devour everything in existence possibly One-Above-All included.

Power and Abilities

• Omni-temporality: Dominions are nonlinear beings. Dominions that had existed will always exist regardless of how was created and cannot be erased.
  • Time Manipulation: Enigma's omni-temporal nature allows him to act across all time-lines.
• Psionics:
  • Assimilation: Being a Dominion he can absorb energy, information and matter at an incalculable scale.
  • Telepathy: Enigma is capable of influencing other beings mind even powerful ones like a Celestial.
  • Projection: Can selectively project images to others.
  • Technopathy: Enigma can interface with computers.

Limitation:

Linearity: While Dominions are omni-temporal they can become susceptible to linearity and other concepts when entering a time-line.

Paranoia: Unlike other Dominions, Enigma is base entirely off a human mind which leads it to make irrational decisions out of fear.
