Gretchin was paid golden pieces by Zofia for taking care of the infant Lilith, and she promised to take care for Lilith as long as she lived. However, then Dracula was turned into a vampire by the first vampire, Varnae, and he blamed the gypsies for what he had become by feeding upon them. Gretchin's daughter, Arni was also slew by him. In return, Gretchin transformed Lilith into a vampire, and sent her out to haunt her father for eternity.
