Origin

Born in Luxor, Egypt, Badr followed in his parents' footsteps becoming a doctor, but as a rationalist, he was ashamed of his lack of faith. So much so, that he would dive into religion looking for a proper connection. Until one night, he was attacked by vampires and saved by Khonshu, who made him a second Fist of Khonshu. That hollow feeling where his faith should go was now filled with divine purpose

Creation

Hunter’s Moon debuts in Moon Knight (2021) #1 by Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappucci

His full name, Yehya Badr, is of Arabic origin and has a fitting etymology. Yehya means "Yaweh is merciful," and Badr means "full moon."

Meeting Moon Knight

As a Midnight Mission member
As a Midnight Mission member

Badr had taken over a free clinic near the Midnight Mission. Moon Knight tried coming to his rescue when 8-Ball tried to break in and still meds, but Badr had already defeated him. He keeps no secret with Marc. He almost immediately reveals himself as a second Fist of Khonshu who is disappointed in how far Marc has fallen, especially allowing the Asgardians to lock Khonshu up. He especially does not like that he is protecting recently turned vampires. He intends to correct Moon Knight, but Marc bests him in a fight.

When Zodiac also tries to test Marc, Reese, Marc’s vampire assistant, comes to Badr to back up Marc. He was impressed by her bravery to approach Badr knowing he wanted her dead for being a vampire. He fights Zodiac off and then cares for Marc's injuries. The bond over being brothers of Khonshu, and Badr makes himself available whenever Marc’s Midnight Mission needs him.

Harvest the Light

The Man with the Peacock Tattoo and his organization, XENO, were baiting heroes so that he could collect blood samples. He was interested in collecting god-touched DNA from Moon Knight, but Ms. Marvel, who was on to XENO, got to Moon Knight early. They were prepared for his swarm of robot rats XENO was using to collect the DNA. So, the rats turned toward Badr as the other Fist of Khonshu. Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel tried to race to his rescue, but it was too late. Enough of his DNA was collected.

Personality Crisis

Possessed by the first Moon Knight
Possessed by the first Moon Knight

For sheltering new vampires who did not want to feed on humans, both Moon Knight and Hunter's Moon were targeted by the vampire cult, The Structure, and their con man leader, The Tutor. Tutor saw them as competition for vampire leadership and hired two assassins (Grand Mal and Nemean) to kill the Fists of Khonshu. After being overwhelmed by vampires, Nemean had no issue getting in close on Badr and snapping his neck.

As a Fist of Khonshu, the god is able to resurrect his priests, however, Badr was not returned in whole. Being imprisoned has limited Khonshu's abilities. Khonshu managed to pass a message on to Badr that the next time either he or Marc died, he would not be able to resurrect them. This was taxing on Badr. The memories of former Moon Knights were overwhelming him. This had a negative effect when his help was requested by the Subterraneans living under Manhattan.

They had reached out to Moon Knight once before when Commodore Planet had them enslaved to build tunnels. The Commodore's men had returned to finish the job. While protecting them, Badr was badly injured and allowed the soul of one of the previous Moon Knights, the first, to take over. As a primitive man, he tapped into a rage Badr took solace in controlling, forcing him to work through his issues with Dr. Andrea Sterman, Moon Knight's Avengers-appointed therapist.

City of the Dead

After Moon Knight failed to save a young boy named Khalil from the Egyptian-American street gang, Sons of the Jackal, Marc went to Hunter's Moon for help entering The Duat, the City of the Dead. He pledged to find the soul of the boy and bring it back to his comatose body. While Marc traveled to the afterlife, Badr protected both of their bodies.

Last Days of Moon Knight

The new Mission
The new Mission

The Midnight Mission was targeted by Sidney Sarnak, employed by a mysterious new Black Spectre. Whoever they were, they were using Sarnak's ability of brainwashing people with sound. While Moon Knight continues to deal with goons hired by this Black Spectre, Hunter's Moon had caught another of Black Spectre's employees, Vibro. Marc was forced to interrogate him psychically because Badr had beat him into a coma. Inside his mind, the two Fists of Khonshu learned that Vibro had been drilling around Manhattan turning it into a giant tuning fork to use Sarnak's sound hypnosis on. Black Spectre's plan was to force Manhattan to tear itself apart.

With the knowledge from Vibro's mind, Moon Knight hatches a plan to take out the new Black Spectre once and for all. He tracks the Black Spectre to The Mount, a skyscraper in New York. 8-Ball, now Moon Knight's resident pilot, would fly Badr and the rest of the Mission to The Mount in his Hover-Rack. Unfortunately, Black Spectre was ready for them. The Hover-Rack would be shot out of the sky and crash into the building, and the heroes would be quickly separated by Black Spectre's goons. Badr would corner Sarnak and try to intimidate him into turning the sound machine off, but Sarnak would refuse.

Badr would eventually reunite with teammates, Tigra and Soldier, but they would be blocked from reaching Moon Knight. With no other option, Marc would sacrifice himself blowing up the sound machine. Per his last wishes, Badr would continue his good work at the Midnight Mission under Reese's leadership.

Cobolorum

When New York City is invaded by a role playing game with innate magic, called Cobolorum, Doctor Strange recruits Badr for a team of Secret Defenders to stop it from warping all of reality. The only way to beat the RPG was to play by the game rules, including a game party with a "Priest." Strange leveraged a debt Marc Spector owed him which Badr was happy to repay. They ventured to the center of the reality warped landscape and the mesmerized children who had started the game, but these Defenders are stopped by Baron Mordo, who had given the game to the kids in the first place.

As the gamemaster, Mordo summoned a dragon to occupy Doctor Strange and then set a scenario where Taskmaster and Hunter's Moon were old rival enemies. While Mordo was preoccupied with them, Black Cat managed to steal the Coboloum guidebook and give it to Strange. Strange had used the dragon entity to talk directly to the sentient game, which hated Mordo but required players to live. Strange made a new deal with the game for a single player, General Strange, who was imprisoned in the Sanctum and had plenty of time on his hands to play.

Vengeance of Moon Knight

Caught by the Shroud
Caught by the Shroud

While trying to protect their part of New York, the Midnight Mission is attacked by a masked mystery man claiming to be the new Moon Knight. He had already attacked 8-Ball and was looking to target the rest for being too ineffectual or monstrous to carry on the legacy. He easily fought off the whole team, however, when he entered the Mission, the sentient building rejected him completely. This forced the new Moon Knight to give up on taking back the storefront but warned them to stay out of his way.

Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of the problem. This new Moon Knight went after masked criminals so aggressively, that those masked criminals started targeting the Midnight Mission, putting the community they protect in danger. They were forced to approach Lady Yulan and call in the favor they earned taking out The Structure. She led them to his daylight hiding spot where it was revealed he was The Shroud.

Shroud was deadset on being the new Moon Knight and thought he was honoring Marc's legacy. He believed he had ruined The Shroud identity and needed to rebrand himself, but Tigra managed to convince him that he needed work on himself instead. Unfortunately, just as he was coming around to accepting the Mission's help, he was transformed into a portal for darkforce (as did all the darkforce users on Earth) blocking out the sun.

Blood Hunt

The Structure had used Atlantean magic to block out the sun with darkforce energy. This was their first step to world domination. The second was wave after wave of global uprisings, including New York. Hunter's Moon and Tigra were away from the Midnight Mission when this all occurred. Rather than return to the mission, they sought out Doctor Strange. There, they compare notes with other heroes taking refuge. Badr suggests that he and Tigra be teleported to Asgard so that may raise their own army of the dead.

In addition to Tigra, Badr requested the Impossible City teleport a third person, Wrecker. Badr had use for his Asgardian crowbar to release Khonshu from his prison. Once freed, the god was able to force the Moon to shine through the darkforce and raise all his past priests, including Marc, to fight back against the vampire horde.

As the sky cleared, the vampires had changed. They no longer were weak against the sun, meaning Moon Knight and the Midnight Mission's job was just getting started. Once they had driven the vampires back into hiding, Marc needed his first break since coming back to life. Khonshu would not have it. He demanded Marc kill the pretender: the Shroud. Marc decided to fool Khonshu. He fought Shroud, stopping his heart, fulfilling his debt to Khonshu, but he had Hunter's Moon prepared to revive Shroud, giving him the second chance Shroud was looking for.

Midnight Mission Tomb

Framed
Framed

In Marc's absence, a new drug kingpin, Achilles Fairchild, had moved in on the Midnight Mission territory thanks to his magic drug, Glitter. When Moon Knight started to threaten him, Achilles changed the street name to Moon Dust and framed the Midnight Mission for its manufacturing and distribution. Achilles even sent his enforcer, Carver, with her enchanted Vanaheim sword, to take out the House of Shadows, leaving the team vulnerable to an incoming SWAT raid. The team was forced underground, to a decommissioned SHIELD station once used by Slasher, a villain Moon Knight had stopped previously.

Marc attempted to take down the Glitter operation from the top down, but Achilles revealed he was from Asgard and much too powerful than Marc. Instead, Marc decided they had to start from the bottom up. First step was asking a favor from Hank Pym to make an antagonist agent to help users kick the drug. The Mission used at on Achilles inside people in the police. Marc then freed Carver from her sword's enchantment by pitting the soul of the dragon possessing it against Khonshu and taking the weapon for himself. They then planned a two pronged attack on Achilles' office. Marc, Badr, and Reese would come in from the sky while Tigra, Soldier, and 8-Ball sneak in through the street.

Badr and the others are able to handle the supervillain goons that Achilles hired to distract them while Marc chases down Achilles. Scared of Carver's sword, Achilles doesn't try to fight. He fled but was teleported away by Zodiac.
