Jake Gomez inherited his family's werewolf gene. Ever since the age of 13, he could change into a werewolf if he couldn't control his emotions. No moon necessary. Thanks to the support of his grandmother, Rora, and friend, Molly, he found an outlet for his ferocity, controlling him emotions with music.

Creation

Jake Gomez debuts in Werewolf By Night (2020) #1 by Benjamin Earl and Jimmy Gomez (Taboo).

Major Story Arcs

Life Pharmaceuticals

Working by day as a custodian at Life Pharmaceuticals, Jake starts looking into their connection to missing teens from the Hopi reservation he lived on. His bleeding heart friend, Molly, was especially distrustful of the corporation and helped him look into it. When he wolfs out and intercepts a truck trafficking the teens to the Life Pharmaceuticals headquarters, he is confronted by three animal-human hybrid soldiers.

He loses the fight and waits out the hybrid soldiers. When he tries to make his way home in the morning, he is confronted by Life Pharma's mercenary unit as well as US Marshall Red Wolf, who got a lead from Molly and Rora. Wolf has also been investigating the missing Rez teens and wanted to compare notes with Jake, as well as offer his services as a mentor, helping him with his super powers.

Their meeting was cut short when Life Pharma kidnapped Rora. Jake went alone to confront them and fell into their trap. Red Wolf and his partner JJ broke into the facility to release Jake. With the help of the US Marshalls, he was able to take on the hybrids and free the other captives. Unfortunately, the head of Life Pharma fled before she could be arrested.

The Darkholders

Jake is letting off some of his animal rage in an abandoned amusement park when a vampire cult, known as The Structure, fills the sky with darkforce as part of their plan for world domination. Jake is forced to protect some young occultists from vampire cops, but he is injured by the spirit they had summoned. He may have died if not for the sudden appearance of the moon, thanks to a recently freed Khonshu who was helping the Avengers fight back against the vampires. The god-enhanced moon amplified Jake's wolf form, causing him to go full berserker, killing the vampires and the occultists.

With the attack over and the moon corrected, Jake was still regularly overwhelmed by his werewolf form. Once a month, he would search out bad guys so that when he wolfed out, he would at least take out someone guilty. This got him on Avengers radar, eventually tracked down by former Avengers cadet, Reptil. Their fight would get the attention of Elsa Bloodstone, who was looking for Jack Russell, suffering from the same ferocity. She helps Reptil tame Jake and then recruits to the two to help her rescue Jack from the Darkholders.

Powers & Abilities

Lycanthropy: At night and regardless of the moon cycle, Jake is capable of transforming into a large humanoid wolf. He has large claws and fangs, heightened senses, and a healing factor.
