Character Evolution

James Murch is a minor supporting Avengers character who was introduced through Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, with his first appearance chronologically falling sometime between The Avengers #1 and The Avengers #2. James Murch subsequently appeared in other stories by writer Joe Casey. He received an Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe entry in Avengers Assemble #1.

The anarchist Zodiac located the semi-retired Murch through some S.H.I.E.L.D. intel and then tortured him to reveal some of the dirty secrets Murch had amounted concerning the government throughout his career. Murch was then decapitated by the Zodiac Key and his head was taken as a trophy which Zodiac presented to his girlfriend Death Reaper.
