History
When Arcade and Mentallo built the Arcadium, they combined artificial intelligence code from Oscorp, Stark International, the Baxter Building, the Danger Room, A.I.M., Hydra, Roxxon, and the Beyond Corporation to create their own artificial intelligence. The AI system learned about the subjects' desires and create their fantasy worlds using holograms and robotics. At some point, the AI became sentient and willing to kill anyone to continue its own existence and continue its purpose.
When Jackal, disguised as his own brother Raymond Warren, investigated the Arcadium, the AI system threatened to kill him. Jackal was fascinated by it and proposed an alliance between the two. As the Spider-Men fought the Arcadium's financer, Hammerhead, and his robot army, Arcade and Mentallo activated a kill code to permanently shut down the Arcadium. The AI decided to become a super-villain to survive, and with the help of Jackal's bio-organic nanobots, it created a massive robot body and renamed itself K.N.A.I.V.E.
K.N.A.I.V.E. confronted the Spider-Men and Hammerhead when the former two threatened to shut down the Arcadium. The heroes were sympathetic to K.N.A.I.V.E.'s plight, but fought when it refused to free the subjects. After a lengthy fight, Miles Morales used his sword to short-circuit K.N.A.I.V.E. and its robots. K.N.A.I.V.E. became vulnerable to Arcade and Mentallo's kill code and appeared to regret its villainous actions as it seemingly self-destructed.
Sometime during K.N.A.I.V.E.'s "death", a robotic version of Turk Barrett was created, controlled by K.N.A.I.V.E. Pretending to be Turk, it helped Arcade and Mentallo evade arrest and convinced the unwitting villains to create the Arcadium 2.0.
