First issue:
The Manipulator used knowledge of his opponents to make them pawns of their own unconscious motives. He was shot in the head by Brian Muldoon (The Cowled Commander) and was shocked to learn that he was not a human but a robot creation. Unable to cope with not being human he just shut down.
