The Mech-Monster was initially a mechanized, reptilian monster created by Lord Maur-Kon and his techno-mages. Lord Maur-Kon wanted to employ science into his creation because the monsters created by magic and sorcery were being defeated by the Shogun Warriors. However, one of Maur-Kon's lieutenants named Magar believed the old, ancient way was more superior than science and dubbed his leader a traitor. Magar stole the device that controlled the Mech-Monster after a demonstration and placed it inside the sacred pool of dark life. The Mech-Monster emerged from the molten earth instilled with magical life and was more organic than machine.
