Originally just a normal thief, Eric was blinded by a terrible accident that kick started his latent mutant powers. Erik found himself able to telepathically "see" through the eyes of cats. He also learned that he could psionically command felines. Calling himself Nighteyes, he began to use cats to steal for him undetected by normal security. He even fell in love with an an insurance agent who agreed to help him steal valuable jewelry that her company insured. However Spider-Woman (who was allergic to cats) found herself sneezing at several crime scenes, and soon found herself fighting Nighteyes and his cats. Despite her allergic reactions to his feline army, she managed to subdue the mutant thief.
