Major Story Arc
Queen in Black
R'gars was assigned to infiltrate the Chitauri when the Kree-Skrull Alliance learned they had an anti-alliance Skrull for a queen. When he got there, he found the Skrull queen taken over by a symbiote with more symbiotes being handed out to the Chitauri. Unfortunately, while he was gone, the Alliance collapsed, and there was no one listening to his distress signal. He was forced to escape from the Chitauris on his own and went to Earth looking for Eddie Brock and Venom to warn them of Knull's return.
When he made it to Earth, he found Venom was bonded to Mary Jane Watson. She heard R'gars out and then took him to Iron Man, who collected Earth heroes to team up against Knull. Scarlet Witch was able to use Venom's connection to the hivemind to reveal that Hela was actually leading the symbiotes since stealing Knull's powers, but Nova arrived on Earth warning that Knull had embraced lightforce powers and followed Hela to Earth for revenge. The heroes split into multiple teams to take on both invasions, with R'gars joining the team that was defending New York City.
While the heroes defended the planet, Mary Jane, Venom, and Dylan Brock were being experimented on by Reed Richards. Venom could not be disconnected from Mary Jane without killing the two of them, but Dylan's chainbreaker ability to free symbiotes from the hive mind only worked with Venom. While Reed tried to share the Venom symbiote between the two, the Venom symbiote overgrew and took over the whole planet.
Just then, Knull arrived controlling both the light and the dark after Hela was defeated. As part of the hivemind, R'gars and the rest of the planet were able to overwhelm Knull with their anger and sadness long enough for a mysterious force (who was secretly the symbiote, Sleeper) to steal Dylan's chainbreaker ability, disconnect Knull from the hive, and take the throne as the new King in Black.
