Creation
Runa was created by writers Jason Aaron and Torunn Gronbekk, designed by Mattia de Iulis and first appeared in King In Black: Return of the Valkyries #1. The inspiration for the character appears to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Valkyrie, portrayed by Tessa Thompson.
Origin
One of the original nine Valkyries for All-Father Bor, Runa guarded the Aesir pantheon during battle and escorted the souls of the slain to the great hall of Valhalla. When Runa's lover and fellow Valkyrie Alta fell in battle, Runa personally escorted her between the dimensional veils towards the Norse afterlife. However the warrior goddess was interrupted in her journey by a malevolent force: the headless body of a Celestial which had fallen to the God of Symbiotes, Knull. Now acting as a vessel housing every soul killed by Knull's Necrosword, the Celestial corpse pulled both Alta's soul and Runa's physical form into its bioorganic mass, trapping Runa's body and mind within a looping nightmare for all time...
