St. Johnny lived outside of fairground in New York. When Mob boss Philipe Bazin tried to bribe him to find an object of power, St. Johnny turned him down. When Chris Powell came to the fairground to find his brothers, Johnny told him where to find the Darkhawk amulet. Something about Chris inspired a sense of trust and since then, Johnny has been Chris' sometimes mentor-like person as far as the Darkhawk is concerned.
He was eventually revealed the body of homeless vagrant John Trane possessed by the mind of Mondu, an alien.
