A close friend and ally to Jessica Drew, the Spider-woman. He was bound to a wheelchair, and after some time, his mental condition worsened and he became the mercenary known as the Hornet.

Scotty McDowell is a professional criminologist who lost the use of his legs due to an accident. Confined to a wheelchair, Scotty can study evidence and crack cases but not enter the field. He trained Spider-Woman/ Jessica Drew as a professional crime fighter and bounty hunter. He was her business partner for a while.
Scotty was briefly mutated by Dr. Karl Malus, given all the powers of the Fly/Richard Deacon. As the Hornet, Scotty had superhuman strength, able to lift c. 10 tons. He had superhuman stamina, reflexes and insect wings allowing him to fly at extraordinary speeds. He fired bio-electric energy bands from his hands. This mutation was temporary.
