Shaylee was part of a group of students that were using mathematics to decipher ancient texts and better understand magic. Impressed, Zelma Stanton had surprised them with a field trip to New York City where they will compete in the Multiversal Math Bowl. This year, it was being held at Brooklyn Visions Academy. In addition to Shaylee, the team consisted of: Doyle, German, Toth, and Guslaug. Once there, they get to meet Dr. Erasmus Dawnbright, aka Equation, the leading expert on "enchantimatics," the math of magic, and fairyworld exile. Between defending him from a fairy posse with the help of Spider-Man and both Earth schools getting first and second in the math bowl, Strange Academy made quite the impression on Equation. He has an important project he was looking to recruit for, and he believed Doyle and Shaylee were the two for the job.

Doyle and Shaylee were mind-controlled by Equation into helping him derealize magic out of existence. Their first target was Moon Knight, through whom they could target the entire Egyptian pantheon. Using a teleportation spell, the students were able to snag Shaylee. After they freed Shaylee, their strategy was for Shaylee to pretend to still be in Equation's thrall, so that they could get close to him. When they found him, he had already derealized Doyle and was about to do the same to all of magic. He immediately figured her out and overwhelmed the group, stealing the Book of Enchantimatics. However, German remained inside the book and pulled both Equation and all his classmates in with him, where they were able to overwhelm Equation with their own math formulas.

Afterward, with the help of a recently resurrected Doctor Strange, they were able to re-realize Doyle.

Blood Hunt

When the vampire cult, The Structure, flooded the sky with darkforce energy in a bid for world domination, Voodoo recalled all the students back to campus, where he put up a protection spell. A scrappy group of students, including Shaylee, overheard him talking to the astral form of Doctor Strange. He needed Voodoo to go to Madripoor, where Strange had sensed the Darkhold, an ancient book that includes the Montessi Formula, which would eradicate all vampires. Voodoo refused, but the eavesdropping students decided to take matters into their own hands When they teleport themselves to Madripoor, they find a young boy, the Darkhold made flesh.

Darkhold was already considering the Montessi Formula, however, the newly enrolled Pia revealed her vampiric nature when she attacked him. She was afraid of being destroyed with the formula. Her fellow students were shocked at first, but they ultimately agreed with her concern. They thought they could negotiate with Darkhold, since he genuinely wanted to save the world. Unfortunately, when their former professor, Agatha Harkness, showed up to take guardianship of Darkhold, he teleported away with Pia as his prisoner.

The students were forced to fight through hordes of vampires looking for Pia and Darkhold. When they finally caught up with them, Pia was defending Darkhold from Agatha and the doubles she had conjured. They joined the fight, eventually defeating Agatha and inviting Darkhold to join their school.

Doom Academy

After the Blood Hunt, Doctor Doom had usurped the role of the Sorcerer Supreme and set out to take over the world. In his new role, he had the Strange Academy shutdown and invited the students to join his own magic school, The Doom Academy. Only a few students took him up on the offer including Shaylee. Administrators Doctor Voodoo and Zelma Stanton also took new jobs there. The students were worried about their new accommodations, but the school proved more welcoming and safe for magic users, especially those that didn't pass for humans.

Zoe was the only one unsure of the academy, and the others became suspicious when she disappeared. They tracked her to a magic book that acts as a gateway to a pocket dimension thanks to Scoop, of the student paper, and a security Doombot. The book was known for absorbing another student, and Zoe was used as a conduit by her roommate, Marta, to try and save that student. Working together, they are able to cast the right spell to drag Zoe out of the book, as well as the missing student, Greta Montimore. Unfortunately, Greta's many protection spells had connected her to the monsters within the book, who were able to to use her escape for their own.

The students were easily overwhelmed, so Zoe and Doyle hatched a plan to imprison the villains in a different dimension similar to the book. Doyle opened a portal to the Dark Dimension, and Zoe commanded the dead from that dimension to drag the villains in. This got the attention of Doctor Doom, who was impressed by the students but disappointed in Zelma Stanton and Doctor Voodoo for losing track of them in the first place.
