Silas X. Cragg was a scientist and former World War II foe of Captain America who had developed a formula similar to the super soldier serum that had created Captain America. He chose a bitter, lonely man off the streets to try out his serum, creating the Man-Brute. He was killed by his own creation, after the Man-Brute's son had interfered in his fight with Captain America.
