Origin

Emily was living with her grandfather and brother when they were exposed to Terrigen Mists and were engulfed in cocoons. Emily broke out of her cocoon, along with her grandfather, but her brother remained inside his. Emily discovered that the she now had enhanced speed and strength, as well as telepathic powers.

Creation

Synapse was created by Gerry Duggan and Ryan Stegman and first appeared in Uncanny Avengers Vol.3 issue 1 (2015).

Major Story Arcs

Part of the Uncanny Avengers

Assuming the name Synapse, Emily decided to became a hero and used her powers alongside the Avengers Unity Squad. When a villian called the Shredded Man tries to take over New York Emily eventually learns that it is her grandfather. With Cable and the rest of the Unity Squad they defeat the Shredded Man. Afterwords Emily takes a leave of absence from the team to mourn the loss of her grandfather.

Powers & Abilities

Telepathy: Synapse possesses the ability to influence the minds of others, be they sapient or primal in nature; however, she has difficulty contacting artificial intelligences, as their thought waves are either synthetic or nonexistent.

  • Brainwave Manipulation: Synapse can manipulate the electricity running through other people's brains for various effects like making them fall asleep, causing them vertigo, or shutting down their motor functions.
  • Telepathic Communication: Synapse can mentally communicate with other people.
  • Mind Possession: Synapse has the ability to take control over other beings' actions. During the fight against the Super-Adaptoid, she attacked it with a flock of pigeons and has used birds as drones at other times.
  • Healing: Synapse has displayed the power to boost an infant girl's immune system and Quicksilver's healing ability.
  • Power Negation: Synapse can suppress other people's powers. She displayed this ability when she neutralized Hellion's powers while they were out of control.
