Toranos was an Elder God who was sealed away by his sister Gaea for thousands of years in Utgard, along with his brother Utgard-Loki.

Creation
Toranos was creation by Al Ewing (W) and Alex Ross (A) in The Immortal Thor #1 - All Weather Turns to Storm. Toranos was based of the Celtic God Taranis.
Origin
Toranos is an Elder god who was created by The Demiurge during the early days of Earth. Toranos represent storm and the cycles of fate. When Atum the God Eater initiated his campaign against the gods Toranos retreated to Utgard.
Immortal Thor
Seeing all the havoc humanity in inflicting on Earth's flora and fauna Gaea decided to free her sibling from Utgard in order to destroy the modern world. Toranos went to NYC and launch a massive storm. Thor intervened using the Odin Force to banish Toranos to Ginnungagap.
Toranos soon returned and attacked Thor on The Grey Area of the Moon. In order to fight Toranos Thor enlisted the aid of the Thor Corps. After being tricked into lifting Mjolnir Thor bestowed him "The power to hold the storm back", the wisdom and compassion Thor had learned throughout his life. Troubled by his new found conscience he revealed to Thor that Gaea and Utgard-Loki had instructed him to attack Earth.
Toranos returned to Utgard, and attempted to sway the Elder Gods with the compassion Mjolnir infused into him. He was unsuccessful, and the Utgard Gods punished him by nailing him to his own wheel and sent him to Asgard. There, the death knells of Toranos caused a horrific storm that threatened to destroy the Golden Realm so, out of compassion and to end his suffering, Thor executed Toranos the Elder God of Utgard.
