Tritus, also known as the King of Air and Water resided in a ruined castle on the coast of Zingara with his daughter, Ravena. He was known locally as Ziostes and would often grant those travelling by sea fair weather and favorable winds in exchange for a price.
It was during the time of an alliance between Zingara and Argos to rid the waters of the Barachan pirates that Tritus met Conan of Cimmeria and his ally Zurga, a pirate chieftain out of Tortage.
The pair abducted Tritus’s daughter and held her captive in exchange for the Sea King’s aide in the battle with the joint navies of Zingara and Argos.
Initially Conan promised to return Ravena to her father unharmed in exchange for his sorcerous aide, but Zurga threatened to harm her if Tritus did not do as he commanded. Reluctantly the wizard agreed but threatened them that if they harmed his daughter there would be no safe passage for them “on any sea.”
Tritus kept to his part of the bargain, granting the pirates an advantage on the waves against their numerically superior adversaries, and after an intense battle on the sea, the pirates shattered the joint military forces and drove them off.
Zurga, fearing Conan would keep his promise to kill him, took Ravena from Conan’s ship and attempted to flee with her. Conan gave chase, and clashed with Zurga’s crew, killing many of them. Just as it appeared that Zurga might gain the upper hand, Tritus appeared from the waters, and extracted his “price” from the pirates by turning their bodies into pillars of salt. At Ravena’s behest, Tritus spared Conan, and took his daughter with him as they returned to the sea, never to be seen again.
