Verucca was a Barachan Pirate and a Slaver that took pleasure in torturing the young women that fell across his path. He made his base of operations a tower in the slums of the port-city of Tortage in Zingara. He was originally allied to Conan of Cimmeria, Melitus, a pirate out of Tortage and the handsome Zurga in a united effort to pillage the trade coming and going between Zingara and Argos; though what part Verucca played in their alliance is not established.

He was, however, cursed with a horrible plague - possibly an undiagnosed venereal disease that left him bald, and his skin covered in gruesome boils. Worst of all his ailments was his nose had decayed, and the exposed nasal passage was covered with a metal piece he kept tied to his face. It was this very illness he cited as causing his violent and depraved behavior towards women.

As the quartet of pirate's wealth and prestige grew, Verucca sided with Melitus and Zurga in a bid to eliminate their Cimmerian ally. Though the trio failed to kill him, they did succeed in driving Conan from the city for a time. As news spread that Zingara had entered into a pact with its rival nation Argos to jointly rid the seas of the pirates that plagued their waters, Conan returned to Tortage under cover of darkness.

Upon his return, the Cimmerian first sought out Verucca, where he interrupted the slaver in the midst of torturing a young woman with a cat o'nine tails. The two pirates scuffled briefly, but it was a one-sided contest. The fight ended as Conan heaved the defeated Verucca from the window of his torture chamber, causing him to fall to his death in the streets of Tortage.
