Origin

The Wrecker runs a protection racket in the Brownsville area of Brooklyn. His gang had been evading NYPD successfully until Giant Man and The Wasp were called in. The two Avengers went undercover and bought a hardware store in the area from Mr. Smith, who wanted to sell up as he refused to pay protection money. When The Wrecker and his gang attacked the store they were defeated and apprehended by the heroes who revealed Mr. Smith himself was The Wrecker.

Creation

The Wrecker was created by Stan Lee and Carl Burgos. While the first character to be named 'The Wrecker', the character was not meant for greatness. Even back then, Stan Lee admitted "Can we confess something to you? We feel 'The Wrecker' was kind of a weak Giant-Man tale".
