Zalme was a part of a platoon of soldiers who were instructed to kidnap Dazzler. They had a weapon to make her powers go haywire, but it affected Zalme too, who before then didn't realize he was a mutant himself. Enraged Zalme tore into his fellow soldiers before Dazzler was able to stop him.
