Augustus Mutt was a tall naïve, bordering on stupid gambler who when he was not laboring at one menial job or another was a fixture at the race track with a devotion that by today’s standards would be called a serious gambling addiction.
He had a wife, a son named Cicero, who had an oddly intelligent cat named Desdemona, and not much luck.
Eventually he would end up partners with ex-madhouse resident with no last name Jeff, who would do his best to bum what little money came Jeff’s way, or get him involved in various get-rich-quick schemes, and hair-brained adventures. One of which, in 1908, was an unsuccessful run for the White House by Jeff.
