Origin
Unis Finch, born Jonas Unis Finch, grew up in the suburbs of Chicago in a family that prized ambition and social connections above all else. His father, a high-ranking official in local government, and his mother, a socialite with deep ties to the city's elite, ensured that young Jonas was exposed to the world of power and influence from an early age. Dinner parties were a regular occurrence at the Finch household, where local politicians, business moguls, and cultural icons mingled, discussing the future of the city and the nation. From these gatherings, Jonas learned the art of networking, understanding that the right connections could open doors to almost any opportunity.
He studied sociology and political science at the University of Chicago, where he began to explore the fringes of society, delving into the occult and the clandestine world of power beyond the visible. His academic pursuits were not just a path to a degree; they were a quest to understand the deeper mechanisms of control that governed human behavior. He also took up business and minored in computers and technology.
While Unis had always been content with his life, following in his family's footsteps of networking and social climbing, his world took a sharp turn when he stumbled upon a strange, old book that seemed to have fallen from the library shelf. The book, filled with cryptic symbols and references to secret societies, piqued his curiosity. At first, he dismissed it as mere fiction, but the more he read, the more he became fascinated by the idea that unseen forces could shape the world. He realized he had seen some of these symbols before as some of his parent's friends wore them. This accidental discovery pulled Unis into a hidden world of magic and power, where he found himself irresistibly drawn to the potential it offered for influence far beyond what conventional society could provide.
During his time at university, Jonas stumbled upon a secretive group of students and faculty who shared his interest in the occult. They called themselves The Ascendants, a small wannabe secret society that explored the human potential through psychology, drug use and magical practices. Jonas became heavily invested, using his natural charm and networking skills to expand their influence and recruit new members. Eventually the group broke up, as each one graduated and when their own way, all ending up generally successful.
Years later, when real estate mogul Natas Talbane moved to Chicago to launch a tech startup, Unis Finch, now an older man, saw an opportunity to reconnect with the world of tech he had once been drawn into before moving to finance. Chicago had become a hotbed for new business opportunities, especially in the tech sector, and Finch wanted in. Leveraging his connection to the Finch family, he applied for a position within Talbane's new company. To his surprise, he was contacted for an interview and invited to meet with Natas and his wife personally.
During the interview, Finch's suspicions were aroused as Natas spoke. The words he used, the subtle presence of talismans, and the symbols discreetly displayed around the office all hinted at a deeper connection to the arcane. Testing the waters, Finch used hand symbols and gestures tied to the occult, searching for a reaction. But to his disappointment, nothing happened. Despite this, he remained calm and professional, concluding the meeting with a handshake which executed in a specific way that was known to be associated with certain occult circles. The response was subtle, but it was enough to confirm that the connection he'd sensed was real. Finch left the meeting, more convinced than ever that Talbane was deeply involved in the world of magic.
Intrigued by Unis Finch’s cryptic hints about hidden forces, Natas decided to bring him in for a more focused one-on-one interview. During their conversation, Finch subtly implied his awareness of Natas's involvement with occult practices and hidden powers, though he never outright confirmed his knowledge. Sensing that Finch might pose a threat or could be an asset, Natas called in his wife, Alana, to join the discussion. The three of them spoke at length, with Finch carefully navigating the conversation to avoid directly revealing too much.
Though Natas and Alana remained guarded and dismissed Finch after the meeting, they were impressed by his insight and persistence. Despite their initial reservations, they decided to offer him a position within their company, with Finch working closely with Alana. Over time, Finch proved himself indispensable, handling the business operations with exceptional skill. This allowed Alana to step back from the daily grind and focus on their family and other ventures. Eventually, Finch took over the business end of the operation entirely, solidifying his role within Talbane’s inner circle and ensuring his place in the intricate web of influence that Natas had woven.
Within The Rise of Magic, Unis Finch quickly proved himself invaluable. His background in networking, combined with his deep understanding of the occult and human psychology, made him the perfect administrator for the organization. Unis became one of the masterminds behind the scenes, coordinating meetings, managing communications, and ensuring that the group's various interests—ranging from government ties to private industry partnerships—were all aligned. His ability to read people and situations allowed him to recruit key figures into the organization, expanding its reach and influence across Chicago and beyond.
But Finch is not just an administrator; during his college years, Finch had a fascination with ancient texts and occult philosophies, delving into demonology as a niche area of interest. What started as a scholarly pursuit quickly transformed into a deeper obsession. Finch devoted countless hours to studying grimoires, historical accounts of demonic entities, and the rituals associated with summoning and binding supernatural forces. His early studies were characterized by intense research and experimentation and was one of the reasons the group disbanded as it became too real.
When Finch later met Natas Talbane, his extensive background in demonology became a significant asset. Though he initially joined Talbane’s company under the guise of a skilled administrator, his true expertise in the arcane arts made him a valuable and trusted member of the Rise of Magic. Finch’s mastery of demonology, developed over years of dedicated study, allowed him to navigate and influence the hidden realms of power with remarkable proficiency, further solidifying his position within the clandestine organization. He is the glue that holds the organization together, and one of the silent architects of its growth and success. His connections within the city's elite and his understanding of the occult have made him a key player in the group's operations. While others may seek the limelight, Unis thrives in the shadows, where he can manipulate the threads of power unseen, ensuring that The Rise of Magic continues to grow and thrive in its pursuit of ultimate control.
