Bing Crosby (1903 - 1977) was an American singer and actor whose career lasted from 1926 to his death.
He came to prominence as a vocalist for the band of Paul Whiteman and was also part of the Rhythm Boys trio with Harry Barris and Al Rinker. He had his first numberr one hit in 1928. He started his solo career in 1931. Ten of the top 50 hits for the year were either Bing singing solo or Bing singing with others. He starred in his first film in 1932 and started being featured in radio shows. His singing style was given the name "crooner" and several singers like Frank Sinatra would follow in his footsteps.
