Czar Nicholas II was known for backing the Serbian ethnicity following Archduke Franz Ferdinand's assassination by Serb nationalist Gavrilo Princip.
When World War I with the German, Austro-Hungarian, and Italian Empires became inevitable, he forges an alliance with the British Empire and French Republic, forming the Triple Alliance.
Russia was the first major power to exit World War I because of a major socio-economic collapse. Many Russians began to see him as their destroyer rather than savior, and many united under the common banner of Bolshevism.
Led by Vladimir Lenin, the Bolsheviks succeed in overthrowing the Czarist regime, meanwhile Nicholas II and his family fled to their residence in Yekaterinburg hoping to outmaneuver the rebels long enough to plan another counter-offensive.
However, at the morning of July 17, 1918, he and his family were captured and executed at Lenin's orders.
