Elvira is played by Cassandra Peterson, the popular TV horror hostess of the 1980's. She quickly evolved from a cult figure into a culture icon. Going by the name "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark", Cassandra marketed her likeness and she can be found on consumer products, T.V shows, a movie, magazines, and of course comic books. Elvira`s first appeared in 1981 on Los Angeles TV station KHJ on Movie Macabre .
History
From 1986-87, DC published a variant to the original House of Mystery comic entitled Elvira's House of Mystery. The Mistress of the Dark is portrayed as the temporary caretaker, introducing horror stories similar to the original series.
In 1993, Cassandra Peterson starred as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark in a new comic series produced by Claypool Comics. Elvira ,Mistress Of The Dark ran for 14 years producing 166 issues.
