Jackson founded Operation Breadbasket in Chicago, IL to help feed the poor and then later changed the name of his organization to Operation PUSH (People United to Save Humanity.) He ran unsuccessfully in both 1984 and 1988 for the Democratic Presidential nomination. Jackson has had some success in mediating labor disputes and in bringing home hostages from overseas. His son, Jesse Jackson, Jr., was a Congressman from Illinois until he was convicted of corruption.
